On Friday 1 July many of us will have seen these soldiers around London. They sang We're Here Because We're Here and handed out cards with the names of soldiers who died at the battle of the Somme.

The project was conceived by Jeremy Deller and these soldiers appeared all around the country including various places in London. It was designed to be a living memorial to all those who died at the Somme.

27 organisations, including the National Theatre, banded together on this project to train volunteers to participate in this performance. The social media hashtag of #wearehere suggested this project was positively received by the public.
