When Will The London Mayor Election Results Be Announced?

Who will be the next Mayor of London? Zac Goldsmith or Sadiq Khan? We can't wait to find out — but we'll have to. At least until Friday evening.

Polls close on Thursday at 10pm, but the votes for the top job in the capital won't be counted until Friday at 8am.

Firstly, the London Assembly votes are counted, with results for who's been successful in the battle for the 25 seats expected to be announced from around 3pm.

After that the same count staff will switch their attention to the votes cast for the mayor. Depending on how quickly the papers are totted up, it's expected we'll hear the outcome anywhere between 5pm-10pm.

Last time the results weren't announced until midnight, because a power cut at one of the three counting stations caused a delay.

Candidates will find out their fate at City Hall, where the outcome of the counts at Alexandra Palace, Olympia and ExCeL exhibition centres will be collated.
