The Zürich Meets London festival is set to dispel all your preconceptions about the Swiss capital — including its foodie scene. Head to the Borough Market festival hub from 17-21 May and discover a miniature Zürich foodie paradise. There's just a couple of clichés they're happy to run with: delicious Swiss chocolate and cheese. No complaints there.
Zürich food market
You won't be able to resist the selection of local specialities on offer at this village of stalls, ranging from the intense flavours of Züri-honey to Zurich’s favourite sausage, the Stadtjäger.
Fear not, gourmet chocolate is most definitely on the menu, but also expect melt-in-the-mouth Tirggel, Turicum Gin infused with linden blossom from the middle of town and Gents tonic water made with quinine extracted from the Gentian root grown in the greater Zürich area.
Then there's a vegetarian pop-up so good that it counts many a meat eater among its biggest fans. Tibits is one of Zürich's most successful restaurant concepts of recent years, featuring a heaped buffet of colourful dishes — help yourself and pay by weight.
Zürich's most innovative radio station GDS.fm will be broadcasting beats all day every day of the festival, with a special After-Market session on 21 May.
Dada Gala Dinner
Treat yourself to a feast at the five-course Dada Gala Dinner, served up by Fabian Spiquel, head chef at the Michelin starred Maison Manesse and inspired by Dada's artistic principle of anything goes.
Serenading you through your supper will be musicians from the Tonhalle Orchestra and actors from the Schauspielhaus Zürich, performing a spectacular devised by the Zürich Chamber Orchestra and the Zürcher Festspiele.
