Walk The Lines Of The Mail Rail

Mail Rail's long-awaited opening isn't until next year, but ahead of that, there's a chance to walk the lines.

There is, of course, a catch. You've got to sponsor one of the sleepers on the tracks, for a not-insignificant £250.

The sleepers — made from oak and jarrah — are more than three quarters of a century old, and many need restoring or replacing. Sponsors will get their name added to a little commemorative plaque, attached to the sleeper itself.

But the real coup in our opinion is an exclusive 'walk the rails' tour, which leads you through dark and mysterious sections of the tunnel, before the trains start running once more.

If you feel your dosh is better spent elsewhere, Mail Rail is scheduled to open to the public in spring 2017.
