Learn how to dress a samurai, try on a kimono and make your own emoji at a Japanese festival at the V&A this bank holiday weekend.

The V&A's Japan Festival for Families coincides with the Japanese Festival for Children; head to the museum for special tours, performances and activities to celebrate children's health, growth and happiness.

Performances include Japanese Taiko drumming, Koto music, Nihon Buyō Japanese dance, and — for the first time in Britain — a performance of Masuda string puppets.

For families hoping for some hands-on activities, choose from making a samurai helmet, trying some origami, and learning manga drawing with artist Karen Rubins.

Japan Festival for Families, 1 May, 11am to 5pm, Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road, SW7 2RL. Free
