A Tribute To Mike King
04/09/2013 The Sun sets in a view from Woolwich, SE London by Mike King via Flickr

Award-winning photographer and Londoner Mike King died suddenly this week aged 52.

An inspirational talent, we at Londonist were extremely fortunate to count Mike as a Flickr friend and honoured to use his incredible photos on the site.

In 2009 we asked him to talk about his photography. The first thing he said was, "I'm Mike. I'm a Photoholic."

Read the piece. There's top advice in there for anyone interesting in recording the world around them. Especially this:

Don’t assume you can take the shot later. Chances are you’ll never see that combination again. Recognise how fast life is changing now, and record it.

Tributes from those who knew him all say what a kind, gentle, generous and likeable man he was. He will be greatly missed. This montage using his Flickr photos, put together by a long-term friend and colleague, says much more than words can.

Our heartfelt condolences to Mike's family and friends.

A full tribute by one of his friends appears on the Sports Journalists Association website and the Guardian has a gallery of some of his most stunning sports photography.
