Streatham Comes Of Age: A Festival For All The Family

Streatham Festival is back for its 14th year on 4-11 July. The theme is Coming of Age, a nostalgic celebration of local heritage as Streatham booms with new shops, restaurants and cafes opening up every month. There’s live music, comedy, theatre, workshops, films and family activities.

The full programme includes many events which are free, thanks to local sponsors. Booking in advance is highly recommended.

Here are our highlights to get you started:

Laugh every night of the festival as Streatham previews award-winning comedy acts heading for the Edinburgh Fringe at Giggle Week with the Laughter Pod, upstairs at the Horse and Groom (£5 a show or £15 for an evening).

Meet some animals!

Workshops run by local businesses include acting, jewellery making, furniture restoration and singing. For Art 23, 30 shops and businesses across Streatham are loaning wall and window space to local artists so that they can show their work, and there will also be a series of author’s talks.

Streatham locals are particularly excited about The Ceilidh Tree hosting a huge Ceilidh on two stages on 10 July. The event takes place at The British Home with proceeds going to the charity. There will be foot stomping with fiddles, banjo and a caller shouting out the next move. Tickets are £9.

For families there is The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on 5 July including live jazz, tap dancing, street funk, art workshops, performance poetry and children’s theatre. Also on 5 July, head to Cavendish Lodge Nursery School to meet some of the animals from Vauxhall City Farm.
