Could London Be Left Off The Monopoly Board?

Ah Monopoly, the staple board game in many a home. Since its birth in the early 20th century, Monopoly has been party to family nights in, crafty dealings and rows over who gets which playing piece galore.

But now it may be witness to something even bigger: a sheer injustice.

Why? Because as it stands, London is losing its spot on the new global Monopoly Here & Now: World Edition board. The board, which will feature the most popular cities from around the world as voted for by the public, is being crowdsourced by Hasbro and Buzzfeed and currently, London has not passed Go, has not collected £200, and will not appear on the board. It needs to reach at least position #20 to secure a spot and it’s currently sitting not-so-pretty at #22 (apparently #20 is Sydney, pah).

And so it falls to us, the great London public, to remedy this dire situation. After all, how could London not be on the board? The capital’s connection with Monopoly runs deep — the city of London was the first licensed Monopoly game for heaven’s sake! If not for yourself, do it for poor Old Kent Road, who could really do with a break.

We have until midnight on Wednesday 4 March to cast our vote so let's get our fair capital the space on the board it deserves (and then we can return to moaning about public transport as usual). You can vote multiple times and there is no need to sign up — it takes a matter of seconds and avoids a lifetime of shame.

The final list of cities that will be featured in the Monopoly: Here & Now games will be announced on March 19 2015, World Monopoly Day and the brand’s official 80th birthday.
