Catch this week’s LA Invasion
While they split opinion, there’s no denying Girlpool are the band on everyone’s lips and this week they bring their ramshackle punk shrieks to The Lexington on Monday 16 February — join the Waiting List on DICE. While on Tuesday 17 February, Together Pangea bring their explosive chaos to Birthdays. Think Mika Miko or Abe Vigoda, throw in King Tuff, and buy a ticket.
The best of the heavy hitters
Exploring noise and rock with heavy and beautifully languorous riffs, Earth bring their extensive repertoire to Islington Assembly Hall on Friday 20 February. Or if your Priorities lie with Don Broco, they’re headlining The Kerrang! Tour with support from We Are The In Crowd that same night. There's also one of the best new hopes for British rock: fronted by the formidable Becca Macintyre, Marmozets play Electric Ballroom on Thursday 19 February.
Best place for some Saturday house bangers
DJ Mag's illustrious collaboration with EGG LDN continues as they host Detroit's very own house music stalwart, Omar S, on Saturday 21 February. While over at XOYO on the same night, those who were hammering Midnight Request Line in their second-hand Vauxhall Corsa back in the day, this one's for you: Skream will be throwing it back in truly unique fashion showcasing 2001-2005.
Best gigs to discover something new
Last year’s Arranged Waves, the debut UK full length from Stephen Steinbrink, was a hidden gem of 2014. If you’re a fan of Bon Iver, check out Steinbrink at The Waiting Room on Sunday 22 February. Meanwhile the joyous Scandi-pop of Team Me folds around Hackney’s Oslo on Thursday 19 February, while one of the most talented and creative musicians of the last 10 years, Nico Muhly, takes over Union Chapel on Friday 20 February with Oneohtrix Point Never.

It'd be difficult to write about the gigs in London this week without mentioning the run of BRITs week shows happening across the capital. All are sold out but you can cross your fingers and join the Waiting List on DICE to see George Ezra, Royal Blood and The Charlatans in small venues — a contribution from all tickets goes to War Child.

Returning last year after well over a decade away with surprise third album, Black Messiah, D’Angelo will leave the Eventim Apollo swooning on Friday 20 February and Saturday 21 February. Across town on the Friday, Ry X brings his sultry, glowing pop to Hackney’s Oval Space.
