Oscar Films And Actor-Themed Sweet Treats At The Barbican

Eat the face of your favourite Hollywod star.

It happens every year – Oscar time comes round and you realise you haven’t seen half the films that were up for the top gong. And most of them are no longer on at the cinema. Luckily, the Barbican is giving you an extra chance to catch them all on the big screen with a week-long celebration of the eight flicks nominated for Best Picture, starting this Friday.

And while watching them you can also pick up a cupcake decorated with the face of your favourite actor. Chomp into Eddie Redmayne’s cheeky grin while he solves The Theory of Everything or chew off one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s arched eyebrows as he shows the Germans what-for in The Imitation Game. The sweet sponge portraits will be on offer at the Barbican’s Cinema Cafe & Bar, which will also be transformed into a replica of Hollywood Boulevard complete with stars, red carpet and a 7ft tall Oscar statue.

There are different movies every day starting with Birdman on 27 February and ending with Whiplash on 4 March, with all the Oscar-nominated short films being shown on Monday 2 March. For the full Oscar Week programme click here. There’s also an Oscar themed quiz taking place tonight starting at 6pm (£2 to enter).
