Central line trains won't stop at Tottenham Court Road station from 3 January until the middle of December, as part of the major works programme to upgrade the station ahead of Crossrail.

If you want to get on the Central line you should head to Oxford Circus (500m) or Holborn (400m) instead — and if you want to change to the Northern line you'll need to either change at Bank and do an annoying change at Euston or Kennington, or come up with a whole new route for the year. Sorry.

It'll all be worth it when there's better access to the Central line platforms. There will be lifts from the new ticket hall and to the Northern line, making Tottenham Court Road that rare beast — a step free zone 1 station. And speaking of the new ticket hall... the Northern line hall opens on 12 January. We had a sneaky look behind the hoardings in December, so watch our video to find out what's going on.
