Indulge In A Spot Of Full Frontal Nerdity

We've long been fans of Festival of the Spoken Nerd, that trio of geekery comprised of mathematician Matt Parker, songstress Helen Arney and scientist Steve Mould. Their shows are a joyous mixture of Proper Science and Maths, comedy, music and sarcasm. We've seen stuff set on fire, discovered the best use of spreadsheets and learned how to find your soulmate using statistics.

The Nerds are about to retire their 2014 Edinburgh show (they're already working on the new one) but before they do, they're giving it a big send-off at Bloomsbury Theatre on 16 and 17 January. That's quite a way off, but there's a reason we're telling you in advance. These shows will be recorded to make a DVD. They had the money to do that, but they're not the sorts to be satisfied with the bog standard. They wanted DVD extras, proper music, a booklet with science info and — very importantly — subtitling to make it accessible (they've had live captioning at shows in the past).

So they made a Kickstarter and reached the initial £3,500 target in 24 hours, and the higher target of £10,000 has also been achieved. It's running until 4 December so if you want to get in on the action you still have time. Maybe the Sci Hard pledge level is for you, which bags you the show and extras download and your name listed on the supporters' website. Or how about Apocalypse Tau, which gets you a signed DVD, your name in the booklet, two t-shirts, badge, tote bag and handmade Venn diagram. Pledge levels start at £3 and go right up to £3,000 (still available!) for which all three Nerds will turn up at your home or workplace and do a 90 minute show.

If you decide to forego the Kickstarter, see the show and then kick yourself, you'll be able to buy the DVD or download along with the rest of the world come spring 2015.

Festival of the Spoken Nerd: Full Frontal Nerdity is on at the Bloomsbury Theatre, 15 Gordon Street WC1, on 16 and 17 January 2015. Tickets £17.50/£15 plus booking fees.
