Give your child the chance to become a movie star for one day. No need to go to Hollywood, as Framed Film Festival is back at Barbican Arts Centre this month.

This year's international films are aimed at young cinema-goers aged 4-11 and explore typical childhood experiences: making friends, having adventures and the desire to be a grown-up. There are three films from Norway including Hocus Pocus, Alfie Akins, a delightful adventure film starring the famous Swedish children’s character created by Gunilla Bergström. From Holland, a chocolate-milk-loving moose in A Christmoose Story crashes Santa’s sleigh; and get ready for a new adaptation of Belle and Sebastian, retelling the beloved story about the charming relationship between a boy and a wild dog, set along the Swiss-French border in 1943. All film screenings cost £3 for under 18s and £5 for adults. Tickets need to be prebooked in advance from the website.

All workshops are free and you can just drop in during the day:

  • Discover the latest cinema technologies and experiment with film kits at the Pop Up Media Studio. While you're there, visit the Vox Pops Booth where you can add your ideas to the photographic project 1,000 Londoners.
  • Create your own animated scene using stop-motion techniques with animator Reza Ben Gajra at the Animation Station.
  • Become a movie star for a day at the Green Screen Trailers: choose an adventure, wear a costume and act out the scene of your dreams. Feel like being an alien, a pirate or an astronaut? Why not — and then take the DVD of your trailer home with you.

Still waiting for a reason to go?
