POETRY FESTIVAL: Ealing Autumn Festival kicks off today, inspired by the 450th anniversary of the birth of astronomer Galileo Galilei. There will be opera, concerts, films, drama, poetry, new visual art and family events: browse the programme online. Most of the events are ticketed, festival runs in different venues across Ealing. DESIGN EXHIBITION: A Good Design? opens today at Chelsea Space. This exhibition traces the development of the Experiment in Design Appreciation scheme, showcasing examples of ‘good design’ that were circulating in secondary London schools between 1951 and 1977. POWER WALK: Survey the London's landscape of power with Rosie Oliver from Dotmaker Tours. By walking around Fleet Street, St Paul's and The Strand you will investigate the capital's users and abusers of authority. WAR POETRY: The British Library marks a century of war poetry. Poet and writer Owen Sheers introduces an evening of readings. Special guests are Andrew Motion and Sabrina Mahfouz. The evening covers both historic work, such as that of Isaac Rosenberg, and more contemporary writing. £8/£5, prebook, 6.30pm

THREE NATIONS: Poets from three nations (New Zealand, Britain and Australia) read their work at Birkbeck University of London, in an event organised by the New Zealand Studies Network. The poets are Peter Bland, Kevin Ireland, Adrian Caesar and Paul McLoughlin. Free,prebook, 6.30pm

COMICS PARTY: Gosh! Comics in Soho hosts a party for the launch of Tiny Pencil comic new edition. During the night there will be live sketching, goody bags and giveaways for purchases made on the night and, of course, drinks. Free, just turn up, from 7pm

LIVE MUSIC: Head to The Montague Arms in New Cross for an evening of free music. On stage will be Tweed & Hyenas, Little Liar, King Of Hearts and True Collectives. Free, just turn up, from 7.30pm

DAN NICHOLAS: Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Dan Nicholas (shortlisted for the 2013 BBC New Comedy Award) hosts a chat show where he interviews you, the audience.
