St Paul's must rank among the most-photographed buildings on the planet. So the cathedral came up with a cunning wheeze. Is it possible, they asked, to capture the building from an original angle or setting? Hundreds of people entered the competition, whose prize includes a behind-the-scenes tour and a slap-up meal at a nearby restaurant. The shortlist of 12 has now been revealed, and we've included them all in the gallery above. The winner will be announced shortly, but in the meantime, judge your own favourite.

I remember when, as a child, I was able to go right to the top of the dome. At the very top one went up a vertical ladder one at a time. At that point you were directly under the golden ball and cross, on your own! An experience never forgotten and apparently never to be repeated.
