This weekend scores of people will be heading to SW9 in a bid to prove they are the fastest man, or woman, in Brixton.

Brixton Bolt takes place from midday on Sunday 14 September, where men, women and children of all ages will sprint 100 metres with the aim of taking the crown for their age group. The categories are under 9s, under 12s, adults and over 60s, and are split by gender.

Local businesses are sponsoring the event and many spectators are expected to cheer competitors dipping at the line — trying to shave that all important 100th of a second off their time.

Bolt himself was in south London recently and although the Olympic champ probably won't be around this time, Brixton Bolt promises to be an enjoyable family and community-orientated affair with BBQs and face painting.

Entrants can register in advance by emailing their name and age to brixtonbolt@gmail.com, or sign up from 12pm on the day. Races start at 1pm on Pope's Road.

So, if you fancy a shot at holding the prestigious title of Brixton’s Fastest, start limbering up now!
