Ever heard of the Leytonstone Centre for Contemporary Art? It’s actually a shed, and it’s in the back garden of artist Bob and Roberta Smith. These days, it’s full of cobwebs and intruding tendrils, but we’re told that it once had an international reputation, and even went on tour to the Serpentine Gallery.
John Rogers speaks to Smith about this unlikely project. He also tracks down Joe Amrhein, the Brooklyn artist who was first to exhibit in the flatpacked arts centre back in 2001.
Make Your Own Damn Art, a feature-length documentary about Bob and Roberta Smith by John Rogers, screens at the ICA on 26 August (tickets £3-£6).
