Chance To Go Up The Balfron Tower To See Artist's Film

After Turner-prize winning artist Catherine Yass failed in her attempt to chuck a piano off the top of the Balfron Tower a few months ago ("to explore how sound travels"), a more sober art project will use the Poplar landmark in September — offering the public a rare chance to climb to the 24th floor to enjoy the view.

Lucy Harrison is welcoming people in to view a film she has made about a family who lived next door to Ernő Goldfinger, the splendidly-monikered architect who designed the building in the 1960s. The family both knew Goldfinger and experienced living inside his brutalist, controversial ideas, so their insights in the film as they come back to the block years later should be interesting. Harrison says the film, Home On High, "investigates the anatomy of memory" — which sounds like it involves people reminiscing a bit.

The project is part of the Balfron Season, and has been commissioned by The Legacy List. Tickets are free but need to be pre-booked by clicking here. Viewings run from 5th - 21st September between 12-6pm.

There is also a supper club on the evenings of the 8, 15 and 22, where all the dishes have a connection to a local story. Email Info@exploringtheestate.co.uk for details.
