Best Gigs In London This Week: 30 June-6 July 2014

Tom Du Croz from LondonGigGuide selects five small/medium gigs around town this week.

Wednesday 2 July

Rubblebucket, The Miller, Borough Market

"Rub-ble-buck-et [ru-bul-buck-it] Noun 1. A vessel in which workers collect waste materials on a construction site; We need a rubblebucket for all this rubble. 2. A wild art-pop band from Brooklyn, NY." Inspiration comes from weird places for some people.

Thursday 3 July

Chantal Claret, Barfly, Camden

This track is dripping with sixties cool and in her video she is even performing with backing singers who have their own dance routine. Chantal Claret is from LA and is on a whistle stop tour to promote her new album 'The One, the Only...'.

Thursday 3 July

Marie Naffah, The Borderline, Soho

We totally fell for this beautiful track about drinking too much wine in the summer sun. It is so calm, and sung with such ease, Marie Naffah really captures lazy afternoons in the park.

Friday 4 July

The Villainy, The Good Ship, Kilburn

This week’s shameless favourite. This four-piece split their time between the UK and Sweden reflecting the band members mixed nationalities. This is a beautiful track, but take a moment to listen again to the poetry of the lyrics — "Tired of the tears, I tattooed an umbrella over my heart, it was bleeding through the whiskey band aid that I had on. Science tells us love is just a trick to keep us going."

Felix Hagan And The Family, The Monarch, Camden

A truly epic band! Full of vim, vigor and eye liner. Their stirring live sets have given them a dedicated fan base.
