London is a city made for sightseeing, but with packed buses, underground trains and busy roads, it can be a hectic experience. So why not trade the hustle and bustle of London’s streets for the open water of the River Thames and enjoy a cruise courtesy of City Cruises, who are offering a variety of special discounts this January.

City Cruises has sailings to suit all kinds of passengers, but the big daddy of sightseeing options is the River Red Rover ticket. An all-day, unlimited hop-on, hop-off sightseeing ticket, you have the freedom to explore the River Thames (and all the iconic sights along its banks) at your own pace, for only £5 for adults or £2.50 for children (usually priced at £17/£8.50, under 5s travel free).

With four piers at key London locations along the river (Westminster, London Eye, Tower Pier and Greenwich), passengers can hop on by the Houses of Parliament, hop off to explore Greenwich Observatory, head back up river for a stroll along London’s South Bank, then finish off with dinner by Tower Bridge. Or the other way around. In fact you can do it any way you like, as it’s possible to hop on and off as many times as you wish, in whichever direction, throughout the day (10am-6pm).

On board there is guided commentary, hot and cold refreshments and full toilet facilities. You don’t find that on the tube. Most boats are wheelchair accessible (ask pier staff for full details) and there are no age restrictions so all the family can join in.

If that doesn’t float your boat then their January Sail Sale reduces rates across their entire collection, with up to 50% off their most popular cruises. Choose from wine and dancing on board the the London Showboat, food with a view on the Lunch Cruise, an afternoon tea to remember with the Tea Cruise, or the fast and furious ThamesJet aquabatics experience (see video below).

The City Cruises’ Red River Rover Supersaver deal is available between 13-31 January 2014 and the voucher can be downloaded online at www.citycruises.com/supersaver. For details on all other cruise options, visit the website at www.citycruises.com.
