London's New Year's Eve fireworks

London's New Year's Eve fireworks on the Thames are back! You'll need a ticket to get anywhere near them — they're on sale from 3 November 2023, and likely to sell out fast.

If you don't manage to get a ticket, you can watch it live on BBC One and iPlayer... if you're not too busy having fun at one of these parties, that is...

New Year's Eve parties and clubbing in London

Lots of these New Year's Eve parties offer early bird tickets or staggered pricing, meaning the earlier you book, the cheaper it'll be.

New Year's Eve at The Candlelight Club

Legendary Jazz Age speakeasy The Candlelight Club once again heralds the new year with a decadent evening of cabaret, live music and dancing. Glamorous 1920s attire is encouraged as you enjoy cabaret from Champagne Charlie, live music from Elise Roth, vintage DJing, Charleston dance routines from the Gatsby Girls and a glimpse into what 2024 has in store, from fortune teller Lucius. Takes place at 'a secret south London venue that saw it all the first time round'. Tickets from £50.

New Year's Eve at The Mansion

Three dancefloors, VIP areas, and two lounges for socialising and entertainment are all on offer at The Mansion's NYE party, taking place at a Victorian venue in Zone 2 of north-west London — exact location only revealed to ticket holders 48 hours before the event. Look out for a fire-eater, cage dancing, a clairvoyant and a stilts performance among the DJ sets. Pink is the theme, with guests encouraged to embrace it with their outfits for the evening — a good chance to get another wear out of your Barbiecore clobber, then. Tickets from £30.

Midnight Island at Bar Elba

We're fans of Bar Elba; it's got twinkly lights, fruity cocktails, and views over London's rooftops — as well as being handily located across from Waterloo station. Midnight Island is the venue's theme this NYE, with unlimited drinks and canapés included in your ticket, as well as live entertainment. By our estimations, it should be a fairly decent spot to watch the fireworks too. Tickets from £125.

New Year's Eve at The London Cabaret Club

It's a black tie dress code at The London Cabaret Club, where West End stars perform scenes from the James Bond films, along with acrobats, aerialists and contortionists. Tickets from £260.

New Year's Eve cruises on the Thames

City Cruises offers ample options for taking to the river on New Year's Eve — all of which offer you a prime position for watching that fireworks show. You could enjoy a sophisticated gala dinner, tuck into a picnic as you cruise, or even see in 2024 roaring up the river on a speedboat. Tickets from £245.

A sparkling New Year's Eve feast at OXO Tower

A room overlooking central London, with lots of balloons and streamers hanging from the ceiling

Why not make your final meal of the year an extra-special one? The OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar & Brasserie is seeing out 2023 in style, with live music, glitzy decor, lashings of champagne, and two suitably celebratory three-course menus to choose from.

Brasserie diners will be greeted with a glass of bubbly before tucking into a feast that’s been designed just for the occasion. Choose from starters like seared tuna with pickled shiitake or kabocha squash served with kasundi and paw paw salad. Mains include duck in plum sauce and a 28 day dry-aged tomahawk, and you'll finish with your choice of a decadent dessert (we'll have the dark chocolate ganache, please!) or cheeseboard.

Meanwhile, at OXO Tower Restaurant, there's a champagne and canape reception, then three indulgent courses with wine pairings hand-picked by the head sommelier to follow. Highlights include venison tartare, chestnut and mushroom pithivier, south coast lobster, and chateaubriand.

Whichever room you're dining in, you're invited to continue festivities on the brasserie dance floor — there's live music till 11pm and a DJ playing all the way to 2am, plus an NYE drinks menu to fuel the fun. Then, just before midnight, champagne is served so you can ring in 2024 in style.

Age Against The Machine New Year's Eve party at Dingwalls

The door policy at Age Against The Machine events is strictly age 30+, though many attendees are often a fair bit older than that. It's for those who 'still fight for their right to party and definitely do not want to go gentle in to that good night' and it's seeing in 2024 with pop, indie, soul, ska, funk, disco and rock tunes from across the decades at Dingwall in Camden. Tickets from £18.

How Does It Feel To Be Loved? New Year's Eve party

We've spent a good few NYEs dancing away to Belle and Sebastian, the Ronettes, Orange Juice et al at indie/soul club night How Does It Feel To Be Loved? This year, it's spinning tunes at Signature Brew Haggerston once again, and the 8pm-3am opening means you get a decent go of it on the dancefloor too. Joyous stuff. Tickets £10.

Ice skating on New Year's Eve

Why not take a twirl on the ice at one of London's winter ice skating rinks? From Somerset House to Hampton Court Palace, there's an ice rink somewhere nearish you. They may be closing earlier tonight, but there's time to get a mid-afternoon, or maybe early evening, skate in.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

It's the penultimate day of this year's Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. Get stuck into the markets, food and drink stalls, giant ferris wheel, ice rink, ice kingdom, circus shows and more. Open 10am-10pm (although it may close early today)

Kids' Countdown at Southbank Centre

Kids buzzing for New Year, but not going to last until midnight? Take them along to Southbank Centre on NYE morning for the Kids' Countdown with Len Blanco — a full-on party with singing, dancing and a NYE-style countdown to midday instead of midnight. FREE, 10.30am

Winter carriage rides in Richmond Park

When Harry Met Sally at Prince Charles Cinema

It's become something of a tradition for Leicester Square's Prince Charles Cinema to show 1989 rom-com When Harry Met Sally on New Year's Eve (makes sense if you've seen the film). We're pleased to say they're not letting us down this year, so you can spend the evening huddled away in the cinema watching Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, and still make it out to a party/home for the Hootenanny. Cheers to that! 6.30pm

Ice Disco at Alexandra Palace

If you're teetering between going out partying and having a quiet night in, how about the ice disco at Alexandra Palace? Spend two hours on the ice bopping away to your favourite tunes, before heading home before the real NYE madness kicks in — or head on to another party elsewhere, if you're got the stamina. A good option if you've got teenagers. Age 14+. 7pm-9pm
