Spitalfields Music Winter Festival

Spitalfields Music presents its largest Winter Festival to date this December with a smashing line-up of site-specific, quirky and diverse musical experiences.

During the festival you could listen to Bach in a chapel at the Tower of London, hear spooky folk stories in Shoreditch Church, experience a mini-opera in a desk and take an immersive tour of Toynbee Hall transformed.

The programme picks an extraordinary mix of artists from different styles. Arun Ghosh's Winter Rasa melds jazz with a plethora of world styles and influences, male vocal quartet the Hilliard Ensemble celebrate their 40th birthday with music spanning 500 years, Norwegian "firebrand" guitarist Stian Westerhus meets Britten Sinfonia, protest songs get sung, classic Vivaldi sparkles on opening night and early English opera gets a glamorous showcase. There's even an opera for 0-2 year olds. Tickets start from just £5.

Free events include live music in the market, a lights-on knees up at Arnold Circus Bandstand and a chance to sing in Crowd-Out, a mass choral piece in preparation for the Spring Festival in 2014.

Spitalfields Music Winter Festival 2013 runs from 6-17 December 2013.
