Explore Kew Gardens for less this bank holiday weekend, with a special £7 lazy summer afternoon ticket for entry after 3.30pm.

With over 300 acres of beautiful green space and 90+ attractions, you'll need to plan your taster trip to make the most of it. In addition to the glorious gardens and great glasshouses, here's some of what you could see and do on a lazy summer afternoon visit:

  • Admire chillies from across the globe growing in the Waterlily House, including the knee-quivering Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper – one of the world’s hottest!
  • Go boating on Bompas and Parr's Tutti Frutti Boating Lake, created in the never-before-open-to-the-public Palm House Pond. Hire your vessel and take in the view as you drift across the azure-blue waters. Stop at the floating pineapple island, complete with giant pineapple and enter the secret banana grotto (closes 1 September).
  • Try experimental ice cream at the White Peaks Café Ice-Creamery - will you have liquorice, honeyberry & coriander seed, or peach, curry leaf & white chocolate flavour?
  • Visit the 400 year old Kew Palace and its Royal Kitchens, which are open to the public for the first time in 200 years. Queen Charlotte's Cottage, hidden away in the wooded Conservation Area, will also be open to the public over the bank holiday weekend.
  • BBQs and beer: the Pavilion restaurant will be barbequeing free-range chicken and a fine selection of ales, beers and ciders from craft breweries around the country will be out on the lawn.
  • If that Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper gave you fiery ideas, shop for some chilli chocolate, chilli seeds, plants and starter kits in the Victoria Plaza shop, where you'll also find a wide range of plants, botanical books and unique garden-inspired gifts.

Kew Gardens' lazy summer afternoon ticket is available daily until Sunday 8 September and allows adults entry for £7 (instead of £14.50) after 3.30pm every day of the week. Children aged 16 and under go free. The gardens are open until 7.30pm over bank holiday weekend but check detailed closing times (including for certain attractions) here.
