Dance Review: Tango Fire @ Peacock Theatre

London plays host to two tango shows this month. The first, and ultra-sleek, Flames of Desire, showcases typical Argentine prowess and passion. Ten dancers, accompanied by four musicians and a singer, sparkle in this oustanding performance.

The opening act features traditional tango which, although remarkably detailed, is a little repetitive for all but the most expert observers. The second act is contrastingly fast-paced, with increasingly dramatic jumps and lifts showing off the company's acrobatic talents.

Dance couples perform in an impressive array of duets, trios and group numbers. All performers are superb but it is Gisela Galeassi and German Cornejo who steal the show with their two exquisite and stylish duets.

The onstage musicians – a pianist, violinist, bassist and bandoneón-player, collectively known as Quarteto Fuego – are just as talented as the dancers and provide an excellent backdrop to the choreography.

Tango Fire is a superb company on top form. Whether you're a tango fan or not, there is plenty here to inspire.

Tango Fire is at the Peacock Theatre until 24 February, Tickets priced £15-42 are available from the Sadler's Wells box office.
