Preview: Snowdrop Days @ Chelsea Physic Garden

The Chelsea Physic Garden’s Snowdrop Days are back!

A welcome reminder that winter doesn’t last forever, each Februray, London’s oldest botanic garden opens for a snowdrop extravaganza. More than just a friendly sign of spring, if you take the Snowdrop Trail or examine the Snowdrop Theatre (below), you’ll learn about dozens of different types of (ahem) Galanthus. (Get us! We learnt that, and more, last year.)

Not only can you enjoy a free guided tour of gardens, there’ll be a wide selection of snowdrops and other winter-flowering plants from specialist nurseries on sale, and a host of talks, walks and events over the nine-day celebration.

Look out for lectures on getting the best from your garden in winter with Christopher Bailes; talks on Beekeeping with Peter James; snowdrop painting lessons; and even a pun-tastic guided walk with the Head Gardener Nick Bailey called Best in Snow. Fnarr. Even if you're not green fingered, you can still enjoy a lovely pre-Valentine's stroll in one of London's top gardens, and indulge in some warming stew or mulled wine at the Tangerine Dream Café.

Snowdrop Days run 2-10 February at the Chelsea Physic Garden, 66 Royal Hospital Road, London, SW3 4HS. Entrance is £9 for adults (inc senior citizens); £6 for concessions; under-5s, free. A maximum of two children can go along per adult. Visit chelseaphysicgarden.co.uk to find out more.
