City Of London Police Trial New Crimefighting Tactics

City of London Police are piloting some new tactics in and around the Square Mile.

Those of us working in the City will be used to seeing bored probationers staffing entry points into what's come to be known as the 'ring of steel', aided and abetted by CCTV and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR).

This week, the force are operating 'unpredictable, high impact deployments', which means a more visible presence of officers along with a mix of cars, motorcyclists, dogs and other measures. We're not sure what the 'other measures' are and we're not keen to find out, but if any Londonist readers find themselves having their collar felt by the long arm of the law within the Square Mile, do let us know.

The new measures will be trialled throughout November and December at selected locations within the City, if successful they’ll be rolled out across the whole of the Square Mile.
