When Western films were released in Poland in the 1960s and 70s, the communist government wouldn't allow Western imagery to be used to advertise the release of these movies. This afforded Polish graphic designers the chance to create posters of their own to promote these films.

This exhibition from Eye Sea Posters presents these posters to a Western audience who are probably unaware of how the film industry in Poland functioned in those years.

For those of us who aren't Polish speakers (and readers) this is likely to prove an interesting challenge: can you guess the film before finding out which movie it's advertising.

ILUZJON - A Celebration of Polish Cinema & Poster Design is on at 18 Hewett St, EC2A 3NN from 19-30 October. Entrance is free.
