Weekend Engineering To Resume On The Tube

Transport for London (TfL) will be resuming weekend closures for maintenance on the tube after a two month break for the Olympics.

This weekend will see closures on the Jubilee, Northern, Bakerloo, District and Circle lines along with some on London Overground.

With the exception of a couple of hiccups (Central line, we’re looking at you here), the transport network coped pretty well with London’s extra visitors during the Olympics, aided by school holidays and people taking annual leave. A special thank you message from transport commissioner Peter Hendy on TfL’s website says:

By changing the way you travelled, you helped us keep London moving and supported a great London 2012 Games. We couldn’t have done it without you.

But the departure of the athletes signals the arrival of the maintenance crews so we can all look forward to weekend tube normality.

With December weekend closures on hold for Christmas shopping, three months this year have been wiped from the maintenance calendar, but TfL say it will ensure at least 80% of stations remained open this year to reduce disruption.

If you’re travelling at the weekend, check TfL’s website for planned maintenance.
