Author appearances, poetry and spoken word events in London this week
Wednesday: We told you about Homework last week – head to Bethnal Green for one of the best poetry nights around and a preview of Ross Sutherland’s Edinburgh show (7.30pm, £5).
Kat Francois hosts Jawdance at Rich Mix, featuring spoken word from Cath Drake, James Massiah, Elektric and Jason Pilley (7.30pm, free).
Kamin Mohammadi, Maziar Bahari and Ben Rawlence offer stories from the front line of war reporting, at Woolfson and Tay (7pm, free).
The Big Green Bookshop opens its reading garden just after the torch passes through Wood Green (from 7pm).
Holland Park Press has taken over the Poetry in Translation night at the Poetry Cafe (7.30pm, £5) – tonight features Sarah Lawson talking about translating Jacques Prévert.
Thursday: Nick Papadimitriou is talking about his new book, Scarp, with Will Self at Clapham Books (7.30pm, free).
Jake Arnott and Ned Beauman chat about their new novels at Waterstones Covent Garden (6.30pm, free).
The Royal Court’s Local presents Zena Edwards, Adam Kammerling, Shay D, Errol McGlashan and Dennisjustdennis at Peckham’s Bussey Buiding (9.15pm, pay what you like).
Friday: Fourth Friday at the Poetry Cafe has poetry from Hylda Sims, Jon Sayers, Masha Vlasova and more (8pm, £6 / £5).
Saturday: There’s free spoken word in Balham from lunchtime until 7pm as part of the pre-Edinburgh Free Fringe Festival (PDF) weekend; performers include Tina Sederholm, Joshua Seigal, Steph Chan and Henry Raby.
John Hegley and guests are at the Poetry Cafe from 11am (£6 / £5); while later, Amy Key, Jacqui Saphra and Gale Burns present The Shuffle (7.30pm, £5 / £3).
The Poor Press hosts an evening of poetry reading, cocktails and discussion in Hampstead to raise money to print their first issue (7pm, £15).
Sunday: Back to Peckham’s Bussey Building for a night of Outspoken poetry from Raymond Antrobus, Emma Jones and Simon Mole (6.30pm, £4).
Monday: Mansour Chow and Gary from Leeds launch The Alarmist magazine at The Social (8pm, free).
