London Food & Drink News: 10 November 2011

Bake with Maria has announced the opening of a new “high quality, hands-on baking school” called The Baking Lab. Located in St John’s Wood the lab will be the new headquarters for all Bake with Maria classes and events and will offer a programme of various baking courses and related experiences. Londonist swung by for a press event just this morning and had a most convivial time making a variety of treats that seem pretty easy to replicate at home. We were also impressed with the unique re-use of urban space that is Maria's post-industrial, slightly Scandi lab.

Mega space resto, Gilgamesh, has introduced a new specialist menu in its VIP Babylon Lounge: a Peking duck trolley service and a seafood bar. On offer on Friday and Saturday evenings, the duck is good and the seafood is lovely. Londonist gave 'em both a shot recently and found the ample £35 seafood menu for two seemed especially decent value for such a swish and extravagant venue. Dressed Devon crab, steamed razor clams, king tiger prawns and native lobster mayonnaise, all prepared in a pan-Asian style? Yeah.

Essex Road's Barrio North will celebrate its 4th birthday this Saturday the 12th with free entry from 5pm to 3am, DJ Oliver Night on the decks, a special anniversary cocktail list – all cocktails at £4 all night and the “free infamous Tequila Ice Luge.”

On 16 November, Spain’s award-winning cava producer Codorníu will host a Barcelona Supper Club at L’atelier des Chefs. An interactive evening “celebrating the best of Barcelona food and cava, with three culinary masterclasses” in one supper club experience, the event is approximately three hours long (7-10pm) and costs £40 per person. Places are limited. To join book via the Codorníu website or visit their Facebook page for more info.
