More than any other style of music, jazz looks good down a camera lens. Perhaps it's the heritage of the smoky glamour of jazz clubs, perhaps it's the styles of dress, perhaps it's the intensity of the music – who knows, but many a coffee table book has been compiled around jazz.

So the London Jazz Festival is a great opportunity for photographers to catch that special moment. With just a few days of the festival to go, here is a selection of images from the opening weekend. For more photos of the festival, try Edu Hawkins.
