TODAY: It's International Park(ing) Day On The Southbank

Parking spaces become temporary parks for International Park(ing) Day on the Southbank.

Park(ing) Day originated in San Francisco with one parking bay hired on the meter and turned into a greenspace for two hours. The idea went global as an 'open source' event to make people think about common urban spaces differently, turning parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces for one day only.

Landscape Architect Will Sandy - he who helped local residents created the Edible Bus Stop outside Lambeth Hospital on Landor Road - has persuaded Lambeth Council to lend him parking spaces behind the Royal Festival Hall for today. Collaborating with a whole host of organisations and artists and coinciding with the start of London Design Festival and London Fashion Week, parking spaces on Concert Hall Approach will today host a parks that feature a container garden, a mobile woodland garden, a green catwalk and a formal garden.

Pop down to take in some vehicle sized, alternative park life today.

Photograph the park(ing) bays for us! Please add any photos to the Londonist Flickrpool.
