London Food & Drink News: 11 August 2011

A taste of what’s what in recent and upcoming London food and drink news:

Not content with looting electronics and trainers, some of London's rioters decided to crash dinner the other night at Michelin two star restaurant, The Ledbury. A firsthand diner's account of the incident appears on the NakedSushi blog.

Got grouse? A number of London restos are game to include the bird in their menus once the season opens on the 12th. For your consideration: Plateau will serve roast grouse, game croute, watercress, Hendricks gin jus for £28.50 a few days after the 12th. Brasserie Joel will offer roast grouse with pumpkin praline, ravioli and bread sauce (market price). And from the first week of September (when the grouse will have purportedly “grown to the perfect, mouth-watering size”, Quo Vadis will add traditional roast grouse to their menu, served with game chips and a fabulous bread sauce for £26.

Wardour Street's Japanese restaurant, Satsuma, will re-open Monday 29 August as a “specialist Katsu curry restaurant” and will allow guests to build their own curry from which type of noodle or rice base, to which ingredients will be included, and whether you would like it medium or hot.

Bookings are open for a live screening and “break-feast & brunch” for the England v Argentina Rugby World Cup match on Saturday 10 September at Clerkenwell's Argentine asador restaurant, A La Cruz.  The match will start at 9am with breakfast served from 8.30am and brunch from 11am.  You can choose a full English breakfast for £10 or book brunch with an Argentine charcoal-grilled 8oz steak for £12 or A La Cruz à la carte choices from 11am.  Each choice includes a beer or coke.

Japanese restaurant chain, Feng Sushi, has announced the September opening of a seventh site, this one at Billingsgate fish market. With a focus predominantly on delivery and takeaway for Canary Wharfers and the surrounding areas, sustainable fish will be sourced daily from the market itself and company co-founder Silla Bjerrum will continue her involvement in market activity, carrying out regular demonstrations and participating in events.

American celebrity chef, Wolfgang Puck, will make his European debut when he opens CUT at 45 Park Lane this September. Located in Dorchester Collection’s new Mayfair hotel, the restaurant will mirror the award-winning and hugely popular original CUT in Beverly Hills.
