The Stokey Lit Fest is back on 3-5 June, this year with an extra day of events for kids to round off half-term. The Festival is crammed full of goodness, so we're just going to jump straight in and start picking our highlights:
- John Hegley is at the Town Hall with poems for all ages
- Louise Yates, a Roald Dahl prize winner, will be showing off her drawing skills for little ones aged 3-5
- the launch gala with Jon Ronson, Richard Wiseman and hosted by Dianne Abbott
- Stella Duffy is joined by Turkish author Elif Shafak
- Shaun Attwood and Gavin Knight talking about drugs and gangs
- debut authors Sarah Winman, Sam Leith and Naomi Wood
- Stewart Lee is interviewing cult author Dan Rhodes
- celebrations of Edgar Allen Poe and Mary Wollstonecraft
- beer and book matching, an event after our own heart
- John Osbourne doing his Edinburgh show, John Peel's Shed
- Nikesh Shukla, Lee Rourke, Gavin James Bower, Evie Wyld and Niven Govinden all in the same room
- the Firestation Book Swap on tour
This is a pretty long list and there are still a bunch of other events that we wanted to include but, you know, space. Most events are £4 or less and there's nothing that costs over a tenner. This is a literary festival that's thrown its pretensions in a skip — go and browse the programme, you're bound to spot something that catches your eye.
