Host Nation Places For Rhythmic Gymnastics At 2012

It was unsurprising to hear that Rhythmic Gymnastics was one of the events to sell out in the Olympic ticket application process, given its crowd pleasing spectacle of artistry, acrobatics and athleticism. British Gymnastics must be doubly pleased that Team GB are green lit to utilise home nation places in the sport as it will be a brilliant opportunity to showcase homegrown talent to a jam packed O2 North Greenwich Arena.

A Rhythmic Gymnastics test event at O2 North Greenwich Arena in January 2012 will act as a crucial Olympic qualifier for the 1 individual and 6 strong team that we hope to see performing in the summer Games.

Talking of artistry, acrobatics and athleticism, a pole dancing company has started a petition to get 'Pole Fitness' or the 'Vertical Bar' recognised as a test event at the 2012 Olympics. The petition aims to change people's perceptions of pole dancing and get it recognised as a 'physically demanding form of gymnastics, dance and fitness.'

The BOA has now confirmed that rhythmic gymnastics, wrestling, fencing, synchronised swimming, beach volleyball, basketball, table tennis, judo, handball, indoor volleyball, water polo and weightlifting will be able to take up Home Nation Places at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
