Amateur Photography Comp Wants Your Shots Of London

Judging by the 125,000 images in the Londonist Flickr pool, many of our readers are a bit handy with the camera. A new competition from charity Fight For Sight now offers an even more worthy place to upload your shots of the capital.

The My View of London competition seeks amateur snaps of London in four categories: Colour, Love, A New Perspective and Room with a View. The best images will receive some pretty impressive prizes including camera equipment and a two-night stay in that massive new hotel on Westminster Bridge roundabout.

Fight for Sight has 45 years of experience raising money for research into blindness and eye disease. The rationale behind this competition is to get Londoners looking at their city in new ways, and appreciating how much reliance we place on our vision.

As usual these days, the initiative is backed by a number of celebrities. One of the few we’ve heard of is Boris Johnson, who offers this shot of City Hall and Tower Bridge.

The competition closes on 23 June. Entrants must be 18 years or over. Enter here.

by submitting a photo to the competition entrants are granting a
worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence for their entries to be
edited, published, reproduced and used by Fight for Sight and Park Plaza
London hotels for any purpose, free of charge.

As rights grabbing as they come …. don’t enter.

I’m a little confused. Is it for charity or not as the Park Plaza London hotels want the worldwide perpetual licence too? I’d understand if they wanted such a licence for just the prize winning photos, but it’s for every photo entered. So I think it could work like this, you enter, win nothing, and you could see your photo used for anything the Park Plaza hotels want. Is that right Cliff?

Hello, Fight for Sight here! Great to see such interest in the competition from Londonist followers! Thanks for the feedback too. As this is partnership between Fight for Sight and Park Plaza Hotels, the T&Cs are very thorough but they are not unusual for an amateur competition. We ask for the rights so we can display the shortlisted entrants at the end of the competition and plan to use some of the entries to help us promote the competition again next year – we will of course credit the photographer(s). If you were to ask last year’s entrants they would say we did not misuse the rights and there were no issues J
