New Sculpture For Olympic Park Revealed

Three nine metre high, glass and steel letters spelling RUN will be erected on the plaza outside the Olympic Handball Arena as a new permanent piece of public art for the Park.

Reflective by day and lit up at night, the simple yet striking freestanding imperative is the work of artist Monica Bonvicini. The sculpture has received planning approval and will be installed later this year.

Sister pieces STOP, SIT and PICK UP THAT LITTER only exist in our mischievous minds.

I trust the artist is going to set aside some of the money to go into a trust fund to cover the cost of maintenance and repairs to the art work.

After all, you wouldn’t want it sitting there in 5 years time with half the light bulbs dead and not replaced because no one thought about the long term running costs – would you?
