Last weekend, White Mischief held their spring spectacular Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea at The Scala. There was seemingly something for everyone, regardless of what floats your boat. On the main stage, chap-hop compere Professor Elemental introduced a lineup including spooky songstress Spacedog, La Soiree's hoop queen Marawa, pingpong mouth juggler Rod Laver, contortionist Rubber Ritchie, ye olde dancehall band The Dead Victorians and squid-faced singer HP Lovebox.
The audience had clearly made an effort with most coming dressed in homemade costumes with a nautical and/or steampunk theme. Coming on like extras from the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 4, lady pirates rubbed shoulders with frock-coated gentlemen, there were deep sea divers and sailors in the steampunk art fair and we shared barspace with some frogmen and sea monsters.
For those taking a break from the main stage, there was an interactive game about sea dragons called Phyllopteryx plus bands, DJs and a diva providing opera, jazz and electro-swing for those who wanted a boogie in their swimming cossies.
