Arts Ahead: What's On In London 5-11 April

Our hints and tips as to what's new and what's closing, culturally speaking, this week

London Shows Opening: Be There First

For theatre, Accidental Death Of An Anarchist, a sharp satire on corruption, opens at the Waterloo East Theatre tonight. Tomorrow, Bronte brings the real and imagined worlds of the famous sisters to the Tricycle Theatre; and Wastwater at the Royal Court takes the audience to the edges of Heathrow Airport where three couples' big decisions will define their futures.

On Thursday, Cheek by Jowl's Russian ensemble brings The Tempest to the Barbican and Precious Little Talent examines father-daughter relationships in New York at the Trafalgar Studios.

In dance, the Royal Ballet's Cinderella opens at the Royal Opera House on Thursday. From Sunday, Rosas – Early Works comes to Sadler's Wells, looking at the early period of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's incredible dance career.

If you're looking for opera with a difference, we recommend The Coronation of Poppea at the King's Head Theatre on Upper Street from tonight. OperaShots at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio from Friday sees names famous outside the world of opera (like Python Terry Jones and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland) turning to the genre and devising shows for a modern-day audience.

Exhibition highlights this week include two free shows: Philip Taaffe at the Gagosian Britannia Street and Beyond Ourselves at the Royal Society, both from Thursday. We also like the sound of New Order at White Cube Mason's Yard, and Declassified – around 70 Lithuanian film posters at Rich Mix, both from Friday. Finally, Women War Artists opens at the Imperial War Museum on Saturday.

London Shows Closing: Last Chance To See

Modern British Sculpture closes at the Royal Academy on Thursday. Phil Collins: Marxism Today closes at the BFI Gallery on Sunday.

The curtain calls for the last time for the dancers in Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House on Friday.

Saturday is your last chance to see The Boy On The Swing at the Arcola Theatre; Ecstasy at the Hampstead Theatre; The Machine Gunners at the Polka Theatre; The Red Shoes at BAC and The Return of Ulysses at the Young Vic. Enjoy.
