Westminster Council trials fixed rate fares to get you home in a Black Cab this weekend.
Between 10pm and 4am tonight and tomorrow, take a taxi from the rank in Coventry Street, W1 and instead of anxiously watching the ever increasing meter clock up a mysterious and phenomenal sum, pay a fixed fare in advance.
It is hoped certainty about the cost of a cab will help deter people from taking unlicensed minicabs. So, how much will it cost you? Work it out by distance from Coventry Street:
£20 - up to three miles
£30 - up to seven miles
£40 - up to 10 miles
£50 - up to 12 miles
The scheme is backed by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust which promotes personal safety. Unlicensed minicabs are illegal. Take TFL's advice on finding a licensed cab to get you home safely.
The scheme will also be tested on 8/9, 15/16 and 22/23 January.
