Race Up The Gherkin For NSPCC

Ever wanted to sip champagne at the top of the Gherkin? If you don't mind a bit of a strenuous exercise, the opportunity will be there next March, when a charity event races to the top of the City landmark.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) have opened registration for the punishing challenge, which will take place on 6 March next year. Proceeds from the event will go to the Child's Voice Appeal, raising funds for child helplines.

If you register this month, you can book at a two-for-one rate. After this date, entries are £40 (individuals) or £150 (teams of four).

The NSPCC Step Change follows in the blistered footsteps of Shelter's Vertical Rush up Tower 42, and Action Against Hunger's 'twin peaks' challenge. Perhaps tower racing should be mooted as a demonstration sport at the 2012 Olympics.
