Video: London On High

This neat little film was shot and edited in just 12 hours by Matt Gosden and Rob Rackstraw. It shows London in all its beauty from various vantage points and different speeds. They make heavy use of that currently trendy technique of sharply focussing on one area while slightly blurring the rest, giving a ‘toy town’ appearance. Thanks to Michael Brunström for the tip.

    Haha, the diggers look awesome!

It’s called tilt-shift photography, but this is the first time I think I’ve seen a video…

They use quite a bit of tilt-shift photography (time lapsed too) in the establishing shots for the BBC’s Sherlock series.

Oops, didn’t mean to send it so quick — II wonder if they’ve taken stills then made a video from them, as I’m not sure you can get tilt/shift lenses for video cameras (although they might be cheating by doing it in Photoshop, or perhaps filming it on a Canon 5d or similar).

The E-PL1 camera on which we shot this can do tilt-shift on stills or video in real time. Most tilt-shift these days is done in post production but having the camera do it for you saves a lot of time.

Most of the film was shot from the Paramount restaurant at the top of Centrepoint. It’s well worth a look and the food is great too.

Ah, very interesting — thanks for clearing that up!
