London Shows Opening: Be There First
Occasionally London's theatreland posts notices squarely between the sublime and the ridiculous: tonight is one of those nights. Choose between Cannibal! The Musical at Leicester Square Theatre ("The comic musical tale of the only American ever to be convicted of cannibalism!"), and Heinrich von Kleist's poetic masterpiece The Prince Of Homburg at the Donmar Warehouse, starring Ian McDiarmid, (or The Emperor to you and me.)
Then Howard Brenton's new play Anne Boleyn opens at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre tomorrow. Street dance company ZooNation return to London with their hit show Into The Hoods, this time at the Royal Festival Hall, from Friday.
And the Tricycle Theatre's latest festival, The Great Game: Afghanistan opens on Saturday, featuring specially commissioned plays, readings, exhibitions and discussions about the country.
Dance lovers will probably already know that Carlos Acosta returns to the London Coliseum from tomorrow night. Or you can see the exciting-sounding dance show Eonnagata produced by dancer Sylvie Guillem, theatre-maker Robert Lepage and choreographer Russell Maliphant, with costumes by the late Alexander McQueen, return to Sadler's Wells, also from tomorrow.
If you're looking for opera this week, check out a contemporary opera group OperaUpCLose's take on La Boheme (sung in English by a classically trained cast) at the Soho Theatre from Monday.
Art fans can choose from Dazed/Converse 2010 Emerging Artists Award at the Stephen Friedman gallery on Old Burlington Street from Friday. Or head to the Islington Museum for an exhibition of Walter Sickert's paintings, personal artefacts and letters to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his death, called From Munich to Highbury.
Treat little londonists to either Room on the Broom at the Garrick Theatre from tomorrow or The Gruffalo at Richmond Theatre from Monday. Or make it a Julia Donaldson extravaganza and do both!
Finally, kids might also like Halley's Holiday at the National Maritime Museum from Sunday. Learn about the solar system by helping Halley the Space Probe choose which planet to go to for his holidays. Sweet.
London Shows Closing: Last Chance To See
Saturday is your last chance to see both The Comedy of Errors and that Macbeth for younger audiences at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, No Idea at the Young Vic, Spartacus at the Royal Opera House, Through a Glass Darkly at the Almeida Theatre, and Wolfboy at the Trafalgar Studios.
