Be There First: London Shows Opening
Dance fans have a varied programme to consider this week. First, Akram Khan and Nitin Sawhney - Confluence opens at Sadler's Wells tonight. It's a fusion of Nitin's music and Akram's classic kathak dance. Boy Blue Entertainment returns to the Barbican for some more hip hop dance: Over The Edge opens tomorrow. For more traditional dance, check out Coppelia at the Royal Opera House from Thursday: the Bolshoi's take on the story of that beautiful mechanical doll. From Monday, Strictly Come Dancing fans can get their sequin-fix at Burn the Floor at Shaftesbury Theatre. Brian Fortuna! Ali Bastian! Tango! Samba! Mambo! (You get the idea...)
If you can't wait until Benedict Cumberbatch's BBC version, you can see the Secret of Sherlock Holmes at the Duchess Theatre from tonight. Irish black comedy, The Beauty Queen of Leenane opens at the Young Vic tomorrow. French revolutionary drama Danton's Death opens at the National on Thursday. And the Educating Rita / Shirley Valentine double bill transfers to the Trafalgar Studios from Monday.
Littler londonists might like The Go!Go!Go! Show at the Leicester Square Theatre: five new pop stars, brand new songs, audience interaction and a sock-stealing "Fluffalope"! Or introduce them to opera with Fantastic Mr Fox in Holland Park from Monday.
Art fans get the chance to be collectors this week as Peter Blake at Christie's: 40 Years of Printmaking opens on Friday.
Last Chance To See: London Shows Closing
Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Beyond the Horizon closes at the National on Thursday, as does Spring Storm, Tennessee Williams's early play. Boxing ring-based play Sucker Punch closes at the Royal Court on Saturday, as does You Me Bum Bum Train, which has had some interesting reviews.
Finally, Empire Mail: George V and the GPO closes at the Guildhall Art Gallery on Sunday, as does Fra Angelico to Leonardo: Italian Renaissance Drawings at the British Museum. And Free Range comes to a close on Monday. Enjoy. (If we've missed anything, let us know in the comments below.)
