Ruth Wilson stars in Through A Glass Darkly at the Almeida Theatre
London Shows Opening: Be There First
This week in theatre you can see Ingmar Bergman film Through a Glass Darkly turned into a play at the Almeida. It opens tomorrow, and stars the lovely Ruth Wilson.
Also in theatre: Frank Wedekind's previously banned tale of a young femme-fatale, Lulu, comes to the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill, and Everything Must Go opens at the Barbican tomorrow. It's a father/daughter collaboration created for the Edinburgh Festival, using cinefilm, clowning, dance, puppetry and hurdling. Yes, hurdling. The Royal Court's newest production, Sucker Punch opens on Saturday: this examination of what it was like to be young and Black in the 80s is staged in a boxing ring.
If you're entertaining little londonists, our recommendation for this week is the swashbuckling Pirates! at the Polka Theatre from Saturday.
New dance shows on offer include the award-winning Tap Dogs at the Novello Theatre (think Stomp with tap shoes), and Belgian ballet in Les Ballets C de la B - Alain Platel's Out Of Context at Sadler's Wells.
Artswise, Ernesto Neto's amazing installations come to the Hayward Gallery on Friday, as well as The New Décor: work from more than 30 international contemporary artists. And while some of its many events (Architects Build Small Spaces at the V&A for example) have already started, the totally brilliant London Festival of Architecture 2010 opens properly on Saturday, and runs until 4 July. Check out all the details here: www.lfa2010.org.
Last Chance To See: London Shows Closing
Lots of West End and theatrey shows come to a close this Saturday: Bedroom Farce at the Duke of York's Theatre, The Crucible at the Open Air Theatre, Electric Hotel at Sadler's Wells, Ingredient X at the Royal Court, Mrs Warren's Profession at the Comedy Theatre, and Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall.
