Peace activist Brian Haw was arrested this morning on Parliament Square for refusing to allow police to search his tents. Haw, resident on the lawn across from the House of Commons since 2001, was nicked along with another protestor from the 'Democracy Village', after sniffer dog-toting cops descended on the camp to run security checks ahead of Her Maj's state opening of Parliament later today. And the main themes of today's speech? "Freedom, fairness and responsibility". Quite. While in opposition, the Tories promised that they'd evict Haw should they get in power, so in a way it's surprising they've taken this long to do it.
