If you've profited from our recent dating advice and don't want to ruin a fledgling relationship by making a Valentine's day faux pas (hint: not everyone thinks tube map underwear is sexy) then don't despair: we've strapped on our wings, stocked up on arrows and found some great romantic events taking place in the capital.
Do something energetic (apart from the obvious..)
On 13th February, couples can decide who’s buying dinner by racing each other around Battersea Park in aid of Action Duchenne. Funding the charity’s medical research, registration for this year’s 10k Love Run is just ₤25.
Alternatively, you could practice your Torvill and Dean routine at the Lee Valley Ice Centre during one of their romantically themed sessions on the 14th (2pm or 8.30pm, email [email protected] for details).
Get creative
Drag your partner down to the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club for an evening of arts and crafts, at which you can 'make your companion more attractive by sticking bits of paper on them’ and participate in games to win fun prizes.
Lovestruck foodies can cook their romantic meal in advance at The Kitchen of Parsons Green, where top chef Thierry Laborde will them to prepare their chosen 3 course menu. Sessions run at 11.30 and 2.30 on the day, or you can be sneaky and take one of their advance classes on the 13th, leaving your date with the impression that you’re a Michelin starred chef without the hassle of you having to do the washing up.
Blow the budget
They say that money can’t buy love, but if you’re determined to splurge then check out the Swissotel Howard’s ‘Valentine’s Fairytale’ package, which includes a luxury room, horse-drawn carriage ride to a luxury boutique and 5 course meal with harp accompaniment. The only villain in this tale could be your bank manager, as the experience is ₤2010 per person.
Do something a bit more restrained..
Book a private jail cell at the Courthouse Hotel (for dinner, we hasten to add).
Wander through the 'sex doll tunnel of love' at the legendary Torture Garden Ball. 13th Feb, ₤40.
Go to a burlesque dinner dance at Ministry of Sound in aid of VDAY, a charity aiming to stop violence against women. (₤149pp dining, ₤25 just dancing.)
