Pop Up Bar Review: The Alpine Lodge aka the Club House

If you haven’t made it to the slopes this year, fear not! The team behind the fashionably cool Milk & Honey membership clubs brings to London a make-shift Alpine Lodge that offers a true rendition of the cosy atmosphere and gluttonous food/drink menu one relishes after a day’s skiing.  With the continuously dropping temperatures at home, this bar coined 'The Clubhouse' is a treat.

Located five floors up on the terrace level of the Shoreditch hideaway The East Room, The Clubhouse is not the easiest to access, but once there, you're transported to a winter wonderland.  Complete with fake snow, roaring fires and even a hat/glove kit upon entrance, the bar makes all the stops in assuring your experience is authentic.

A full service cocktail and food menu is available thanks to Mark Webb, who has been Head Chef at The Clubhouse in Chamonix-Mont Blanch. Home made concoctions are recommended such as vin chaud (mulled wine with an orange twist), toffee flavoured vodka shots and giant ice cold martinis that we were instructed only to drink if we had assistance making it home.  The alpine influence continues on the food menu: must-tries include the over-indulgent three cheese Fondue Royale and the Swiss Alps staple Tartiflette, finishing off of course with chocolate fondue and marshmallows.

The Swiss influence is noticeable with the décor as well: fur-skinned throws and pillows line the leather sofas, kitsch lamps offer ambient lighting and stark wooden tables and chairs are on hand for dining.

All sounds perfect ... only thing is this pop-up bar closes at the end of the month.  Get your reservation in now - the space books up, especially for Sunday lunches when non-members are permitted entrance.  We also suggest non-members try making a booking early in the week when it's a bit quieter.  Another thought is to reserve the space for parties as all dishes and drinks can be ordered for 20 or more people.

Make your call now - well worth a trip for these bitter cold nights!

The Alpine Lodge pop-up bar is located at The East Room (2a Tabernacle St, EC2A 4LU)
