Lewisham's a trailblazing borough today as its clean streets website initiative, Love Lewisham, rolls out London wide. It's simple enough. Now that most of us have some kind of camera in our pocket, we're encouraged to be active, responsible citizens by snapping photos of flytipped rubbish and rubbish graffiti and submitting them to an online map, thereby alerting the authorities to clean them up.

We had a go and handily, you can sign in using one of your existing Google, Yahoo, Facebook or whatever account. There's a simple interface that asks for the address you want to report and you can assign categories ranging from 'dead animals' to 'drains and gullies', 'flyposting' and, bemusingly 'Jamaica'. Describe your environmental blight, tag it too, upload the photo and the council's street squad are on their way.

A quick look at the LiveMap today reveals that, outside of the already active Lewisham, there are some shopping trolleys abandoned on the banks of the River Roding and not much else so we suggest you keep your eyes peeled and blow the whistle on some waste today.
