From tomorrow you can see certainly the most eye-catching part of the London Mime Fest: Eloge Du Poil: a bearded lady shares the stage with a badger and a goat at the Barbican Pit. What's not to like?
There are a few second chances coming around in theatreland: Waiting For Godot returns with a slightly different cast (yes, Gandalf; no, Captain Picard) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from tomorrow. And iIf you missed it at the National, The Cat in the Hat is back on the London stage at the Young Vic this Thursday. Also from Thursday, in the weird corner, Fool For Love, about love-hate relationship starring real-life lovers Sadie Frost and Carl Barat. Yes, you read that right.
Cosi Fan Tutti at the Royal Opera House is our pick from the classical opera offerings in London this week. It's Jonathan Miller's famously popular staging: a little bit contemporary, a little bit urbane; a little bit comic, a little bit tragic; a little bit foreign (sung in Italian), a little bit familiar (English surtitles). You'll love it.
The main dance news this week is all about Sampled: take in everything from flamenco and ballet to hip-hop and contemporary dance at Sadler's Wells' open weekend. Workshops, events, the world's greatest dancers, and the winner of Sadler's Wells' Global Dance Contest.
In the artworld, Chris Ofili's colourful elephant dung comes to Tate Britain from tomorrow. From Thursday, see Harald Smykla's drawing, film and performance at England & Co. (We'll bring you more on this in the week.) From Friday, you can see two exciting-sounding (and very different shows) in the capital: The Empire Strikes Back: Indian Art Today at the Saatchi Gallery, and Michael Landy: Art Bin at the South London Gallery.
Last Chance to See: London Shows Closing
As January comes to a close, so do a few theatre shows: The Rivals at Southwark Playhouse closes on Saturday, as does The Rise and Fall of Little Voice at the Vaudeville Theatre, Generous at the Finborough Theatre, and Innocence at the Arcola Theatre.
